Peace
Robert Kreider has taken part in almost every Mennonite initiative in the last six decades: higher education, peace activism, voluntary service, Civilian Public Service, MCC relief service and administration, environmentalism, historical research and writing, and China missions. This collection of sixty-six essays, speeches, letters, articles, poems, and other reflections runs the gamut from a 1934 high school oration to a 1998 commentary at a Mennonite history conference. The range of writing includes not only commentary on public activities but also stories of family and personal life.

Looking Back into the Future was released at the "Walls and Windows: Creating and Nurturing Viable Community" symposium held at Bethel College, Nov. 19-21, 1998, in Robert Kreider's honor.

Autobiography
A collection of stories from members of Eden Mennonite Church of Moundrige, Kansas, of how they responded when America sent out a call to arms. Oral histories are included from conflicts covering World War I to the Vietnam War.

Each section includes an introduction, setting the men's stories in historical context, in context of how the Mennonite Church was able to develop alternative methods of service for its young men in each conflict, and also illustrating the changes the Eden community itself experienced through time.

Conscientious Objectors
Civilian Public Service camps played an important role during World War II. Although they operated for only a brief time, their contribution should not be forgotten. Many young men who served their country as conscientious objectors in these camps, benefited from the experience for the rest of their lives.

Three Years in the Rockies tells the story of a young Mennonite man, Daniel R. Schrag, from McPherson, Kansas. For three years he lived and worked in Glacier National Park in Montana, as part of CPS Camp #55. From unusual work assignments, to hiking adventures, to new skills learned, life in the might mountains changed Daniel's life. He still treasures those memories.

The test is enhanced with excerpts from Daniel's letters to his family as well as small portions of letters his family wrote to him. Black and white photographs taken in the park are scattered throughout the book. Numerous inserts include quotes from The Trailmaker and Camp Letter, publications of Camp #55, as well as trivia on various animals of Glacier National Park.
