Biography
World War I stirred intense patriotism. John Witmer soon found out that soldier boys didn't have much patience…or mercy…with conscientious objectors. Though verbal and physical abuse took an awful toll, John's heart was set to follow Christ's example of nonresistance to evil, and God gave him grace to endure. This true account reminds us of the cost of discipleship and challenges us to faithfulness.

History
Civilian Public Service camps played an important role during World War II. Although they operated for only a brief time, their contribution should not be forgotten. Many young men who served their country as conscientious objectors in these camps, benefited from the experience for the rest of their lives.

Three Years in the Rockies tells the story of a young Mennonite man, Daniel R. Schrag, from McPherson, Kansas. For three years he lived and worked in Glacier National Park in Montana, as part of CPS Camp #55. From unusual work assignments, to hiking adventures, to new skills learned, life in the might mountains changed Daniel's life. He still treasures those memories.

The test is enhanced with excerpts from Daniel's letters to his family as well as small portions of letters his family wrote to him. Black and white photographs taken in the park are scattered throughout the book. Numerous inserts include quotes from The Trailmaker and Camp Letter, publications of Camp #55, as well as trivia on various animals of Glacier National Park.

"Peace in our time"--this quest and prayer of Christians for centuries is perhaps more valid today than ever before. In an increasingly angry and abusive world, the Christian spiritual heritage of peace is being lost to a culture of violence and retaliation. Peace--Just Live It! addresses the challenges facing youth in the 21st century and develops the skills young people need to live as God's peacemakers. The curriculum's 10 sessions include suce topics as peace in the Bible, family violence, racism, criminal justice and reconciliation, conscientious objection, and more. Each lesson follows a step-by-step teaching plan and includes user-friendly, reproducible student sheets. Through active sessions, youth are led to examine their world, look to the Bible, and apply the truths they find to their everyday lives. The material poses tough questions--requiring youth and leaders to explore Scripture together and struggle with issues of violence in their own settings to find God's direction.
