| In his book, Mark Thiessen Nation. provides an insider's introduction to John Howard Yoder, demonstrating how a committed Mennonite could also be profoundly evangelical in his witness and broadly catholic in his Christian sensibilities. Taking us into Yoder's life and writings, Nation explores Yoder's context, his keen interest in the Anabaptist tradition, his sustained
engagement with other Christians and other faiths, and his claim that pacifism is inherent to Jesus' message. Copyright 2006 Wm B Eerdmans Publishing Co

| Between 1971 and 1996 the late John Howard Yoder wrote a group of
ten essays with profound implications for Jewish-Christian relations.
This volume brings these signature writings together for the first
time. Significantly extending the thesis of his influential book
The Politics of Jesus and other previous works, Yoder here
argues that the historic Jewish-Christian schism "did not have to be."
Building his case on compelling historical evidence, Yoder shows that,
properly understood, Jesus did not reject Judaism, that Judaism did not
reject Jesus, and that the apostle Paul's mandate for the salvation of
the nations is best understood as belonging to the contest of his
Jewish heritage. Editors Cartwright and Ochs clarify and
crystallize Yoder's positions by locating them in relation to his
decades-long dialgue with the philosopher-rabbi Steven S. Schwarzschild
and by relating them to Yoder's own study of the book of Ephesians.
They also show how Yoder's views on Jewish-Christina reconciliation
have much to say about what it means for Christians and Jews to jointly
be God's "missionary" peoples to and for the nations. Copyright

| Readers will discover that it is not possible to disengage John Howard
Yoder's practice of ecumenical dialogue from his vision of the church.
Yoder's approach to ecumenical dialogue correlates with his conception
of the faithfulness of the church. His vision of the church poses
challenges for Christians of all communions because he calls both for
disciplined dialogue and for faithful servanthood that renders the
confession of Jesus Christ's lordship meaningful.
This collection of 17 essays on themes ecclesiological and ecumenical
is intended to demonstrate the substantial unity of Yoder's work over
the past four decades. Many of these essays are often cited by
researchers but have been till now unobtainable. Three of these texts
have never been published before. Editor Michael Cartwright has
contributed a substantial introduction on the "Yoderian" project, and a
select bibliography catalogs Yoder's writings-published and
unpublished-on ecclesiology and ecumenism.

| Binding and loosing, Baptism, Eucharist, Multiplicity of Gifts,
Open meeting. These five New Testament practices were central in the
life of the early Christian community. Some of them are still echoed
in the practice of the church today. But the full social, ethical, and
communal meaning of the original practices has often been covered over
by centuries of ritual and interpretation. John Howard Yoder, in his
inimitably direct and discerning style, uncovers the original meaning
of the five practices, and shows why the recovery of these practices is
so important for the social, economic, and political witness of the
church today. Body Politics sets forth the political meaning
of the body of Christ--that the church may truly be the church, and
that the world may see its witness. Copyright 2001

| Practicing the Politics of Jesus holds potential to be
the definitive book on John Howard Yoder's social ethics. Through a
treatment of Yoder's thought that is insightful and sophisticated yet
surprisingly accessible given the profundity of the issues being
analyzed, Zimmerman lays out the relevance of the politics of Jesus for
people committed to the power of God's transforming love. As foreword
writer John Paul Lederach mentions, the book reads almost like a novel-
because Zimmerman has managed skillfully to how Yoder's personal and
church-related narratives helped shape his theology. Copyright 2007

vision common to all Christian communions. This book declares that
peacemaking is essential to Christian discipleship. It is the vocation

| John Howard Yoder went to Europe after the Second World War as a
young volunteer. He worked as an aide in a children's home in Elsace,
France and completed his doctorate under Karl Barth in Basel,
Switzerland. Because of his incomparably clear and sharp thinking,
Yoder quickly became one of the most sought after speakers on pacifism
at seminars as he worked toward an Anabaptist renewal of the church.
In this context, Yoder succeeded in reopening the theological debate
on Christians and political responsibility with the larger church to
which persecution had put an end 400 years earlier. Biblical
scholar, Timothy J. Geddert has translated two of these
lectures, originally given in German, as a resource to understand
Yoder's invitation to begin an exploratory journey that leads to Jesus
Christ's peace church Copyright 2004. Herald Press
