What does it mean for Christians to be hospitable? How, in this age of pressing deadlines and busy schedules, can we keep from sighing with the heaviness of one more Christian duty? Hospitality is often seen as a bland practice of politeness or an invitation to be harmed by a stranger.

Biblical hospitality is different. God's call to love the stranger is neither boring nor dangerous. Instead, it is an invitation to experience God in a new way. Not in a way that depletes our energy, but always in a way where two become three, as God joins us at the table.

People usually don't expect surprises. Yet biblical hospitality, the call to love the stranger, guarantees that a surprise is just around the corner. The guest becomes the host. Givers receive more than they give, God is seen in the most unlikely people. In the process, we become guests of the most gracious Host of all.

What does it mean to be a Christian? How can I make sense of my life? What's really going on in the Bible? Why is the church so important to God? God's Story, Our Story invites you to join a conversation that covers these questions-and many others. It puts you in touch with two stories that Christians are constantly hearing and telling. First, there is the Bible's story of how God has been working in human history to restore us-and all of creation-to wholeness. The center of this story is Jesus Christ who lived, died, rose, and still lives-for us. The second story involved our own lives today. How do they connect with God's story? Where is God working today in your life and mine? What will we do with Jesus' invitation to follow him?

God's Story, Our Story is an introduction to Christian faith from an Anabaptist perspective. It can be used in a group of people considering baptism, or by people who just want to mull over faith questions on their own before-or even after-they say "yes" to God's story.

Three authors have teamed together to offer fresh engaging reflections on daily scripture readings that follow the rhythms of the Christian year. In addition to thought-provoking biblical meditations, each day's entry includes an invitation to prayer and to action.

Each day's meditation begins with scripture. Then drawing upon the best of biblical scholarship and their own close reading of the text, the writers open up the passages in a section titled 'pondering on the way.' Following the scripture reading and meditation is a section titled 'praying and walking in the world,' giving questions and ideas to think about to apply it to our lives today as well as prayer suggestions. Some of the day's readings were written specifically for children and families in mind and are indicated as thus.
