A Mennonite Woman, part narrative, part theology, part spiritual memoir, Dawn Ruth Nelson asks us to wake up to what is shaping us spiritually as contemporary Christians in North American culture. Discover why Mennonites have been drinking deeply from contemplative spiritual formation wells in the last 30 years. Experience the story of twentieth-century Mennonite agrarian spirituality through the lens of one womanÕs life and one seminary.

A Mennonite Woman explores how the shapes people live among in turn shape them. Mennonite Christians are called to be intentional about giving a God-shape to their lives. This book argues that spiritual formation is necessarily changing from a spiritual-formation-by-just-living-in-community to a more intentional spiritual formation-by-contemplative-and communal-disciplines.

But more than that, here is simply a good story! Here the author integrates her Mennonite background, her encounter with Irish Catholic faith, and the spiritual life she discovers in her grandmother and in her own everyday life.

In this collection of essays, a new generation engages the theology of John Howard Yoder. In conversation with Yoder, these essays wrestle with questions of power and its implications for social practices including policing, nonviolence, sexism, governmentality, dialogue, political critique, theological construction, and the work of "inheriting" a theological tradition. Other essays develop biblical or theological frameworks for appropriating Yoder's insights on power and practices.

The authors and their approaches to Yoder's work are diverse. They bring a wide array of backgrounds to the task, from activism and church leadership to advanced studies and the professorate. What each has in common s an instinct to place Yoder's work into new conversations and to examine it through new lenses. Authors include Nekeisha Alexix-Baker, John C Nugent, an Paul C Heidebrecht.

Theology as if Jesus Matters: An introduction to Christianity's Main ConvictionsView

by Ted Grimsrud
  paperback, 230 pages, $19.95

Grimsrud asks what Christian theology would be like if it consistently took Jesus' central command to love God and neighbor as the most important consideration.

Engaging that question, the book addresses the main beliefs Christians affirm in clear, practical, and challenging ways. Written Christian theology too often seems overly complicated, abstract, and removed from actual day-to-day life. Yet, Jesus' own teachings are simple, concrete, and directly engaged with people's lives. Theology as if Jesus Matters approaches Jesus' life and teaching as the model and core content for theology.

With wit and wisdom, Longacare's sermons address currenta dn tough issues of the faith--suffering, judgment, war, violence, family fights, and more. Teh sermons draw deeply from the poignant and pungent perspectives of the Scriptures. Breathing through theses sermons is the updraft of the biblical message and it's vision of salvatioin, compassion, and justice.

On any given Sunday morning, a vast arragy of feelings, questions, nopes and fears come with the congregants as they gather in the church pews. can a sermon begin to tough even a few of these? These sermons reveal that when the preacher draws deeply upon the story of the faith and enters imaginatively into biblical text, sparks leap from ancient story to life now lived. of course, not all questions are quickly answered, not all hopes immediately realized, but new possibilities arise, mercy and grace quiet the struggling spirits.

The Goshen Conference on Religion and Science was established as a yearly conference to explore ways of bridging the often-perceived gap between religion and science. Each year the conference features one primary speaker who presents lectures and also interacts in dialogue with conference participants. It is the intention of the conference organizers to publish a full record of the proceedings of each conference, including the more informal exchanges between presenter and participants.

The first Goshen Conference on Religion and Science took place in April 2001, with Nancey Murphy as it's keynote speaker. Dr. Murphy presented three public lectures at Goshen College, dealing with human identity, the concept of a moral basis for the universe, and evolution respectively. Three discussion sessions followed the lectures. These concentrated on physicalism, the embodiment of humans, and prayer related to God's action. This volume contains the full conference proceedings, edited by Goshen College professor of physics, Carl s. Helrich. The informal, oral nature of the presentations and exchanges has been kept. Readers will find the material accessible and thought-provoking.

Anabaptist History and Theology: Revised Student Edition follows the same narrative format and story line as the unabridged book. But the text has been completely rewritten and redesigned to meet the needs of the non-specialist reader. This second, revised edition features larger print and numerous sidebars and text boxes.

Between 1971 and 1996 the late John Howard Yoder wrote a group of ten essays with profound implications for Jewish-Christian relations. This volume brings these signature writings together for the first time.

Significantly extending the thesis of his influential book The Politics of Jesus and other previous works, Yoder here argues that the historic Jewish-Christian schism "did not have to be." Building his case on compelling historical evidence, Yoder shows that, properly understood, Jesus did not reject Judaism, that Judaism did not reject Jesus, and that the apostle Paul's mandate for the salvation of the nations is best understood as belonging to the contest of his Jewish heritage.

Editors Cartwright and Ochs clarify and crystallize Yoder's positions by locating them in relation to his decades-long dialgue with the philosopher-rabbi Steven S. Schwarzschild and by relating them to Yoder's own study of the book of Ephesians. They also show how Yoder's views on Jewish-Christina reconciliation have much to say about what it means for Christians and Jews to jointly be God's "missionary" peoples to and for the nations.

Stewardship
Recent years have seen a shift in the belief that a religious world-view, specifically a Christian one, precludes a commitment to environmentalism. Whether as "stewards of God's creation" or champions of "environmental justice," church members have increasingly found that a strong pro-ecology stand on environmental issues is an integral component of their faith. But not all Christian denominations are latecomers to the issue of environmentalism. In Creation and the Environment, Calvin Redekop and his coauthors explain the unique environmental position of the Anabaptists.

In rural Amish and Mennonite communities, the authors explain, the environment—especially the land—is considered part of the Kingdom that God will establish on Earth. Creation and human history are thus seen as completely interdependent.
