| A mysterious path through an orchard attracts the attention of
young Ava, who knows that her grandmother's house is at the end of that
trail. Why do so many local people visit Ava's grandmother with their
troubles and problems? As Ava watches, her grandmother blesses the
visitors with her extraordinary gifts of compassion and empathy and,
most of all, listening. Copyright 2007 Herald Press | | | | Confronting the Horror: The Aftermath of Violence | View shopping basket | | by Wilma L. Derksen

| Subtitled The Victim's Journey Through the 15 Elements of Serious
Crime, this book is a rare insight into the fragmented world of the
crime victim. The book is written in an easy-to-read conversational
style. It organizes the crime victim detour into stages and elements
that most victims will encounter. Each chapter begins with a family-type
story to gently introduce the theme or the element. This is followed by
a description of the element, the underlying reasons for it (including
academic research), the consequences and then practical helps for
dealing with the element. The book is accessible and applicable for
anyone who has experienced a crime and for those who support them.
This book addresses the personal and justice issues encountered
after a violent act. Derksen, whose daughter was murdered, writes
especially for victims of crime, their friends and family and service
providers. Copyright 2003. | | | | Unsettled Weather: How Do I Forgive? | View shopping basket | | by Wilma L. Derksen

| When Wilma and Cliff Derksen's daughter was killed in 1984, they
chose the word "forgiveness," hoping it would somehow spare them the
horrors of the aftermath of violence and the ensnaring justice issues.
But Wilma confesses: "I soon came to resent anyone who said: 'Just
forgive' as if it were that easy." Later she joined a support group
of other parents of murdered children where it became obvious that
forgiveness was considered an "F" word. Since, she has teamed with
Sunday school teachers, pastors, and counselors in the Winnipeg,
Manitoba area to explore how storytelling can become a method and the
message of moving toward forgiveness of others. In this study
guide, Wilma L Derksen, Tym Elias, and Brenda Suderman share a seven-
session tested approach on storytelling. This is a vital resource for
persons in classes, study groups, and congregations who wish to take
steps toward forgiveness. Copyright 2005 Herald Press.
