GRANDMA (The Genealogical Registry and Database of Mennonite Ancestry) is a project of the Historical Society's Genealogy Project Committee. Distributed on CD-ROM, this volume of the database contains more than 1,225,366 names and 386,130 families of persons whose ancestral lines can be traced to Mennonite communities in Poland and Russia. It is not necessary to purchase previous editions in order to use a newer volume, since all genealogical data from the first volumes is included on the sixth. The database is designed to be used with existing commercial genealogy software programs. The Historical Society's Genealogy Project Committee strongly recommends Brother's Keeper, which is distributed as shareware on the CD-ROM in both DOS and Windows version. There is a $45.00 fee if you decide to register a copy of Brother's Keeper, that is paid directly to Brother's Keeper. The database may be used with other programs capable of importing GEDCOM files, though many of these programs cannot import databases as large as GRANDMA. To use GRANDMA on your computer, you will need a DOS or Windows system with a CD-ROM drive and at least 125 MB available hard drive space.
