When a message is appropriate for more than one group, list all of the group addresses. Mail programs allow you to list several addresses in the To: and Cc: fields.
For example, a press release from Mennonite World Conference might be addressed to like this: To:menno.annc.misc@MennoLink.org, menno.org.mwc@MennoLink.org, menno.reg.india@MennoLink.org MennoLink provides a shortcut which combines multiple groups into one address. The previous example could be done like this: To: menno.annc.misc+menno.org.mwc+menno.reg.india@MennoLink.org
Most mail programs will automatically send MennoLink messages back to the originating group or groups when the program's reply feature is used.
Digest recipients, however, need to address their replies to the appropriate groups and also reset the subject to reflect the original subject.
Tips
- It is better to send one message to multiple groups than to send several identical messages to individually addressed groups.
- A Subject: must be specified.
- Digest mode user must reset the Subject: and To: fields when replying to a digest message.
- Only groups may be listed as destinations; categories cannot. For example menno.talk.people@MennoLink.org will work; menno.talk@MennoLink.org will not.
